This Affiliate Disclosure explains how Lumen Protocol makes money and how our affiliate relationships affect (and don't affect) our content. We believe in complete transparency, so this disclosure is more detailed than legally required.

The Short Version

Lumen Protocol participates in the Amazon Associates program. When you click an Amazon link on our site and make a purchase within 24 hours, we earn a commission (typically 3–4.5% for red light therapy products) at no additional cost to you. This is how we fund the Site.

We do NOT accept sponsorships, paid placements, or free products from any brand. Our reviews and rankings are based on our honest assessment of each product, not on which brand pays us the most.

The Long Version

1. What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a performance-based advertising model where publishers (like us) earn commissions by linking to products sold by other companies (like Amazon). When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, the publisher earns a small percentage of the sale price.

For you as the consumer, affiliate marketing costs nothing extra. You pay the same price whether you click our link or go directly to Amazon. The commission comes out of Amazon's margin, not your wallet.

2. How Our Affiliate Links Work

Every Amazon link on Lumen Protocol is formatted like this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/[ASIN]?tag=wattsage47-20

The tag=wattsage47-20 part is our Amazon Associates ID. When you click the link, Amazon sets a 24-hour cookie in your browser. If you make any purchase on Amazon within those 24 hours — whether it's the product we linked to or something completely different — we earn a commission on that purchase.

All our affiliate links include rel="nofollow sponsored noopener" attributes, which tells search engines and browsers that these are affiliate links. This is required by Google's link spam policy and FTC guidelines.

3. How Much We Earn

Commission rates vary by product category on Amazon:

  • Health & personal care (most RLT devices): 3–4.5%
  • Beauty (some masks, wands): 4.5%
  • Electronics accessories: 3%
  • Amazon gift cards: 0% (no commission)

For a typical $599 MitoMAX panel, we earn about $18–27. For a $149 Solawave wand, about $5–7. These small commissions add up — they fund the Site and allow us to keep publishing free content.

4. How Affiliate Relationships Affect Our Content

Here's the honest answer: affiliate relationships create a financial incentive for us to recommend products (because we earn money when you buy them). But we manage this conflict of interest through three specific practices:

  1. We don't accept sponsorships: No brand pays us to recommend their product. We choose what to recommend based on our testing, not on which brand pays the most.
  2. We recommend products we don't earn commissions on: When a non-affiliate product is genuinely better, we recommend it. For example, we recommend Joovv panels in some comparisons even though we don't have an affiliate relationship with Joovv.
  3. We tell you when products are bad: If a product is poor quality, we say so — even if we earn a commission on it. Long-term trust is worth more than a single commission.

If we ever change any of these practices, we'll update this disclosure immediately.

5. FTC Disclosure Requirements

The Federal Trade Commission requires that affiliate relationships be disclosed "clearly and conspicuously." We meet this requirement by:

  • Displaying an affiliate disclosure banner at the top of every page
  • Including "Affiliate Disclosure" in our site navigation
  • Providing this detailed disclosure page
  • Using rel="nofollow sponsored" attributes on all affiliate links

6. Amazon Associates Operating Agreement

As an Amazon Associate, we operate under Amazon's Operating Agreement. This agreement requires us to:

  • Disclose our affiliate relationship clearly
  • Not make false or misleading claims about Amazon products
  • Not use Amazon's trademarks in ways that imply endorsement
  • Not collect customer reviews directly (refer customers to Amazon for reviews)

We comply with all of these requirements.

7. Future Advertising

Currently, affiliate commissions are our only revenue source. In the future, we may add display ads (through Mediavine or AdSense) when our traffic qualifies. We will never add pop-ups, interstitials, or other intrusive ad formats. If we add display ads, we'll update this disclosure.

We will never:

  • Accept sponsorships or paid placements
  • Sell your data
  • Send marketing emails (no newsletter)
  • Charge readers for content
